Oyster Bay Democrats Statement on Venditto’s Resignation

BREAKING NEWS: JOHN VENDITTO RESIGNING AS OYSTER BAY SUPERVISOR
Statement from Bob Freier on behalf of the Town of Oyster Bay Democratic Committee:

We welcome today’s news that John Venditto has resigned.

This comes two months after being charged with 13 federal crimes for which he faces up to 20 years in prison. Also, Venditto’s former Commissioner of Planning and Development Fred Ippolito reported to federal prison just a few weeks ago.

During this time, Mr. Venditto has shown his face at Town Hall only 3 times. He just raised our taxes 11.5%, the highest tax increase of any municipality in New York State. This means that the hard-working taxpayers of the Town of Oyster Bay are once again being hit hard in their wallets to pay for the corruption and pay to play culture Venditto and his Town Board promoted. He and his Town Board are also trying to put forth an unfair labor agreement which will force workers to take significant pay cuts which will force many to move out of their homes. At the same time, Mr. Venditto and Town Board continue to approve contracts for outside consultants and outside legal counsel to the tune of millions of dollars.

John Venditto lost his way as a public servant a long time ago. However, he did not do this alone. Each Town Board member was involved in some way by voting for the resolutions that enabled his alleged crimes. Nobody on his Board has even commented about what they knew when they voted. They are either complicit or incompetent.

Clearly, changes need to be made from the top down. As Judge Wexler has said, there is something rotten in the Town of Oyster Bay and it’s starting to smell. As someone who attends nearly every Town Board meeting, I can personally tell you that the stench has been there for quite some time.
